Siphnos belongs to the complex of the western Cyclades and it located between the adjoining island of Serifos, Milos and Paros. Its area is 74 sq.km. and it is 75 miles away from Piraeus. About two thousand permanent inhabitance, only half of which lived on Siphnos a century ago, are occupied with agriculture, cattle-breeding, fisheries, but mainly with pottery (the local national name Siphnos has become a synonym for potter) mercantile marine and tourism. Among it products the most famous are honey, wine, cream cheese and skim- milk cheese caper, figs, marzipan, patties, sugared buns, rolls, pasteli (sesame sweet), honey-pie , and naturally the marvelous ceramics and woven materials. ิhe island sea shores limpid with golden beaches and blue waters await the summer visitors: Platis Yialos, Faros, Chrisopigi, Camares, Vathi, Glifo, Fasolou, Herronisos...
